Sometimes marzipan pigs are awarded as prizes to those who find an almond in their Risalamande. During Jul, a tradition is to eat porridge, once the staple of Norwegian cuisine, with a single almond in it. Whoever gets the almond received an almond present as a prize, usually a marzipan pig, or chocolate or candy.
In Germany, marzipan pigs are given at New Year's for good luck (''Glücksschwein'').
